| Rural and farming networks set up |
| NEW Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme launched |
£20 million fund to help farming, forestry and horticultural businesses to become more efficient at using resources. Farmers, foresters, woodland owners, agricultural contractors and horticulturalists can apply for grants of up to 40% of project costs, awarding grants between £2,500 to £25,000 to invest in green projects, new machinery and improvements to animal health and welfare for example. Various courses available between March and June 2012 on the identification, control, prevention and management of invasive non-native species such as Japanese knotweed, giant hogweed and schedule 9 plants as well as aquatic plant identification and management.
